I live in Chennai for the past 47 years, I am originally from Chennai. My early schooling was at Madras Christian College High School, Chetpet. My undergraduate medical Degree (MBBS) was at Stanley Medical College, Chennai 1981 - 87. After my graduation, I felt the urge to serve the patients of my local area in Chetpet who had limited access to quality and prompt medical care. I, therefore, set up my private practice in Chetpet, Chennai in 1987. I am at the clinic daily from 7pm to 11pm, except on Sundays.
My clinic is named after my beloved mother. It is called as KAMALAM CLINIC, located at No.11/8, Mangalapuram Second Street, Chetpet, Chennai-600031. My wife Sarojini Devi Raghunathan is a home-maker. We have a son and a daughter. My son, R. Ragu Nirmel is 3rd year B.E. (EEE) student and my daughter R. Ragu Priya is in 10th standard
My favourite pass time is reading Medical magazines and watching news in TV channels. My hobbies include tours with my school and college friends twice in a year i.e on Republic and Independence days. We have travelled well over India. We have been to Malaysia and Singapore. I have visited the United Kingdom to stay with my friend in London. I run a Social & Educational Association called “Nanbarghal Podhu Arivu Sangam”. The Sangam helps the students living in the Chetpet locality to acquire general knowledge and this helps them in their competitive exams. Many of its current members are working Engineers, Doctors and Bank officers.
My ambition is to help poor patients. I help approximately 900 patients a month in my clinic at Chetpet and more than 3000 out-patients in a month in Corporation Health Centre. I have personally conducted many blood camps and medical camps in association with other NGO's / CBO's. I have written many medical articles that are published in leading Tamil weekly magazine viz. Kumudam Health Special. These include summer diseases and its preventions. I am interested in Web based Health Education to promote health awareness among the public by writing on common problems. Please read my blog in the HEALTH EDUCATION section.
My area of specialist interest is Diabetology. This is the most important disease in South India and particularly among the urban people. Most of the cases can be diagnosed and treated by simple measure like weight reduction, exercise, and just improving and modifying our lifestyle.
